Helping the Sengwer Tribe of Kenya work their way out of poverty
What we do: the work of Sengwer Aid
Sengwer Aid works in many ways to help the Sengwer Tribe of Kenya help themselves. We:
- undertake many talks throughout the year, encouraging people to help us raise the money we need to help the Sengwer
- consider bids from groups within the Sengwer community who have realistic plans of ways to generate income or food, or make improvements for the benefit of the people in the area
- sell many of the goods produced by the Sengwer community. These include bead jewellery, wooden spoons, kalabash and paintings
- sell goats and hens as gifts in the UK. These then form 'pyramids' that increase over time so that the tribe can be helped to generate food and income
- and we support the eco-tourism project in the Cherangani Hills at Kapolet.
Welcomed by Sengwer dancers
One of the most important aspects is raising the profile of the tribe wherever we go. The recognition by other people is one of the most significant things we can do. It is valued highly by the tribe.
What we don't do is just provide for the people. We encourage and enable them to help themselves. That way they can continue if we are not about.

but now we have hope."
